Getting the most from Costa Rica destination weddings
Plan for the signal, not against it. Beach clubs in Guanacaste and the hillside venues above Manuel Antonio often have a bar or two of data at best, and a crowd of guests on the same tower makes it worse at exactly the moment the couple kisses. The upload page keeps working all week, so the photos a guest could not send at the ceremony go up from the hotel Wi-Fi at midnight or from the pool the next morning, through the same code. Put a line on the table card that says so, in both languages, and the guests who saw a spinning wheel on the beach will try again instead of giving up. The live broadcast is the one part that needs a real connection at the venue, so ask the planner for the Wi-Fi password at the ceremony site and test it from the exact spot the phone or camera will stand.
Write the table card for both families. A card that says only Scan to share your photos gets the Toronto cousins uploading and leaves the Tico grandparents guessing, and one only in Spanish does the reverse. Two short lines, one in each language, cost nothing to print and double the uploads. The guest page itself follows the phone, so once a guest scans, the buttons are already in their language. The same is true for the guestbook: the tío who gives a five-minute toast in Spanish will happily record a short voice message from his phone, and the bride's college roommate will type hers in English, and both sit next to each other in the gallery.
Give the family at home the start time in their own clock. Costa Rica does not change its clocks, so New Jersey and Toronto are one or two hours ahead depending on the season and Los Angeles is one or two hours behind. Send the broadcast link with the ceremony time written out for each city, and ask one relative in each house to open it a few minutes early on a TV browser so the grandparents are not fumbling with a phone when the music starts. If the green-season rain moves the ceremony indoors at three, the link does not change; only the room does.
Common questions about Costa Rica destination weddings
Half our guests are Ticos and half are flying in from Toronto. Will the upload page make sense to everyone?
Yes. The guest page follows the language set on the guest's phone, so a grandmother from Cartago sees it in Spanish and a cousin from Toronto sees it in English, from the same QR code on the same table. Guest pages exist in English, Español, Français. The marketing pages you are reading are in English, and Spanish versions live at /es if the Tico side of the family wants to read about it before the wedding. Nothing else changes: same gallery, same link, same code.
The signal at our beach venue is unreliable. Will guest uploads fail?
Some will not send from the beach, and that is fine. Uploads go straight from the phone to storage, so a photo either lands or it does not, and the guest page keeps working for the whole week and after the event too. Photos that would not send at the ceremony go up from the hotel Wi-Fi that evening, through the same code. Most guests take the photo in the moment and upload in the taxi, at the pool or at the airport. The only feature that needs a real connection at the venue itself is the live broadcast.
My parents cannot fly. Can they watch the ceremony from New Jersey?

Whoever holds it can approve uploads if host review is on, remove a photo, close uploads and download the archive.
