The ordering flips when you publish, and not before
These are the same four answers you just saw. While the round was collecting, the one on nine votes sat third, where it arrived, and the newest answer sat on top with nothing. The moment the host publishes, the list re-sorts to the ranking, the composer disappears and the podium badges appear.

The same four answers after the host published. Two answers on four votes are both second, and the next one down is fourth with no badge at all.

The ordering flips. Vote order, with the earliest answer breaking a tie. Nothing else on the screen moves.

Three ready-made asks, one machine
The three kinds are not three different games. They are three worked examples: picking one writes the round’s name and a starting ask into the form, and puts a label under the question on the guest’s phone. Everything after that is identical. The interesting object is the answer, not the genre.

Sends people around the room to talk to somebody they have not met. Guests take the picture and upload it on the event page, where it joins the album with every other photo, then type what they found on the games page.
Caption contest
“Caption this photo of the happy couple”
Put a photo on the screen at the front, ask the room to caption it, and let the hearts decide. It can be started and closed inside one course.
Guess who
“Post a baby photo and let everyone guess”
A baby photo, a school photo, a story nobody can place. The answers stay on the board after the round closes, so they are still there to read later.
Those three sentences are the exact text the product writes into the ask field when you pick a kind. You can replace every word of them.
The rules that make a round fair
Newest first while the round runs
Answers appear in the order they arrived, most recent at the top, not ranked by votes. Ranking during collection is a race decided by who posted first, and it buries anybody who joined late. Nothing in a round is timed — there is no countdown and no auto-close.
Ties share a place
Two answers on equal votes are both second, and the next one down is fourth. On a guest's phone only places one to three get a numbered badge. Awarding an arbitrary winner between equal scores is the kind of small dishonesty that gets noticed in a room of people who just voted.
Heart as many as you like
Voting is not a ballot. A guest can heart every answer on the screen, take any of them back with a second tap, and nothing stops them voting for their own. The count moves the instant they tap and rolls back if the network disagrees.
The list refreshes itself
A guest's page reloads the answers every 15 seconds while it is in front of them, and stops while it is not. There is no live push and nothing to pull down. The host's panel updates when you reload it.
One answer per guest, per round
Sending again replaces what a guest already wrote rather than adding a second entry — the label changes to “Change your answer” and the field shows their current one. Nobody can stuff a round.
No second QR code
Games live at the same event code as the photo upload page, at /e/CODE/games. Guests reach it from the “Also happening” strip under the uploader, labelled “Join the game”.
How it works, on the two screens it happens on
Games sits in your dashboard under the Present tab, described there as “Rounds guests play from their phones”. Here is the whole thing, in the order you will do it.
Write the round
Press “Start a round”, pick one of the three kinds, and the name and the ask are written for you into any field you have not typed in yet. Change either. Press “Start it” and the round is live — there is no save-for-later button in this panel, and creating the first round is what turns games on for guests.

A round is one question you put to the room. Guests answer from the same QR code they already scanned, and the answers land here.

Three chips, two fields. That is the whole setup. Picking a kind writes the name and a worked ask into any field you have not typed in yet.

“Start it” means started. A round created here goes live immediately. There is no save-for-later control in this panel.

The first round switches games on. Creating it is what makes “Join the game” appear for guests. Nothing else has to be flipped.
Guests play from the code they already have
Games live at the same event code as the photo upload page, at /e/CODE/games, listed under “Also happening” as “Join the game”. There is no second QR code and no app. One entry per guest per round: a guest who changes their mind replaces their own answer rather than adding a second. That screen is the one at the top of this page.
Close it, then show it — two buttons, two moments
“Close” shuts the round: no more answers, no more votes. It does not put the results up, and the round stays on guests’ screens so nothing goes blank while everyone waits for you. “Show results” is its own button, pressed when you are standing next to the screen. It is disabled until a round has at least one answer, and both actions flip back.

This is the one precondition worth knowing before the day. Anyone with the link can read the ask and every answer. To enter or to vote, a guest needs a guest session — and uploading one photo on the event page is what creates it. It is the same rule the gallery already uses, and the same nudge that gets the first picture out of somebody.

Watching needs nothing. Anyone with the link sees the ask and every answer. The list renders whether or not this browser has a guest session.

When to run one
The gap before dinner
The hour where guests have found their table and nothing is happening yet. A photo challenge sends people around the room to talk to somebody they have not met, and the pictures land in the gallery on the way.
Between courses
A caption contest can be started and closed inside one course. The host opens it, answers arrive, the host closes it, and the results go up on the screen when the room is looking.
Showers, birthdays and office parties
Guess-who works anywhere people know each other but not equally well. It is the same three round types whatever the occasion, and nothing about them is wedding-specific.
Instead of a host with a microphone
Nobody has to run a scoreboard, collect slips of paper or count hands. The round runs itself from the guests' phones, and the host does two things: stop it, and show it.

What this does not do
Everything below is missing on purpose or missing honestly. Either way you should know before you plan an evening around it.
No timers
A round runs until you close it. There is no countdown, no auto-close and no scheduled start.
No draft you can save from the dashboard
The panel has one submit button and it says “Start it”. A round goes live the moment you press it, so write it when you want it running.
No off switch once games are on
Creating your first round turns games on for guests. Deleting every round afterwards does not turn the “Join the game” link back off — guests who tap it land on “No games running just yet.”
No photo attached to an answer
Answers are text. A photo challenge is the ask, not the upload: guests take the photo, upload it on the event page where every other photo goes, and type what they found.
No scores across rounds
There is no running leaderboard, no per-guest total and no prize logic. Each round has its own podium and that is the whole scoreboard.
No live push
Both sides poll. The guest page refreshes every 15 seconds while visible; the host panel updates when you reload it or when you press one of its own buttons.
A photo taken for a challenge is just a photo
There is no separate games album, because a challenge does not collect photos at all — it collects answers, and the picture goes up on the event page like every other picture. Which is the good outcome: it is in the album you download at the end, it is reviewed by the same moderation queue as everything else, and a picture you would not want on the wall can be removed in exactly the same place as any other photo. The composer says it in one line: “Taking a photo? Upload it on the main page and it joins the album too.” How moderation works.
Questions hosts ask
What is a round?
One question put to the room, and the answers it collects. Each round has a name, the thing you are asking guests to do, and one of three kinds: photo challenge, caption contest, guess who. You can run one all evening or several back to back, and guests switch between them with tabs at the top of the page.
Why are entries shown newest first instead of by votes?
Because ranking by votes while a round is still collecting is a rich-get-richer race decided by who posted first. The earliest entry sits at the top, gathers votes simply for being visible longest, and everyone who joins later is buried. Newest-first keeps an answer that arrives at the end in play. Once you publish the results, the ordering flips to votes, because at that point the ranking is the point.
Why is closing a round separate from publishing its results?
They happen at different moments. A host closes a round when answers should stop — the course is arriving, the speeches are starting. A host publishes results when they are standing next to the screen, ready to read them out. Joining the two would mean the winner appearing on a screen nobody is looking at.
What happens if two entries get the same number of votes?
They share a place. Two entries on equal votes are both second and the next one is fourth. On a guest's phone the numbered badge is drawn for places one to three only, so a tie for second leaves nothing numbered three. Nobody is picked arbitrarily to break a tie in a room full of people who just voted and can count.
How many answers can a guest vote for?
As many as they like. Voting is a heart on each answer, not a ballot: a guest can vote for every entry in the round, take any vote back with a second tap, and vote for their own. Voting stops when you close the round, and the hearts stay on screen but do nothing.
Can a guest attach a photo to their answer?
No. An answer is text, up to 300 characters. A photo challenge is the ask rather than the upload — the guest takes the picture, uploads it on the event page where every other photo goes, and types what they found on the games page. The composer says so: “Taking a photo? Upload it on the main page and it joins the album too.”
Do photos guests take for a challenge go into the wedding gallery?
Yes, because they are ordinary uploads. There is no separate games album: a photo taken for a challenge is uploaded on the same event page as everything else, appears in the album you download at the end, and goes through the same moderation queue as any other picture.
Do guests need an app or an account to play?
No. It is a web page opened from the event QR code, at the same event code as the photo uploader. Anyone with the link can watch a round and read every answer. To enter or vote, a guest needs a guest session, and uploading one photo on the event page is what creates it — the product says it plainly: “Upload a photo on the event page first and you can join in.”
What if a guest is in private browsing, or picks up a second phone?
The guest session lives in that browser, on that device. A guest in private browsing, one who has cleared their site data, or one who switches to a different phone will be asked to upload a photo again before they can enter or vote. They can still read everything without doing so.
Are there limits on what I can write?
Yes, and they are small on purpose. A round name is up to 120 characters, the ask is up to 400, and a guest's answer is up to 300. A round reads back up to 300 answers. Each guest has one entry per round, and sending again replaces it.
How quickly do new answers appear?
A guest's page refreshes the answers every 15 seconds while the page is in front of them, and stops when it is not — so entries other guests post show up without anybody pulling to refresh. There is no live push. The host's panel shows the count at the moment you loaded it, so reload to watch it climb.
Can I write a round in advance and start it later?
Not from the dashboard. The panel has one submit button, “Start it”, and a round created there goes live immediately — which also switches games on for guests. Writing a round takes about a minute, so the honest advice is to write it when you want it running.
Can I switch games off again?
Not from the dashboard as it stands. Creating your first round turns games on for guests, and deleting every round afterwards leaves the “Join the game” link in place; guests who tap it get a calm screen reading “No games running just yet. Check back when the host starts one.” with a button back to the photos.
Can I reopen a round I closed too early?
Yes. The same control flips back to “Open”, and entries and votes resume where they left off. Results can be taken back down the same way, by pressing “Results up” again.
What happens if I delete a round?
Its answers and its votes go with it, and the panel tells you so before it does anything: “Its answers and votes go with it. Photos guests uploaded stay in the gallery.” Pictures guests took during the round are ordinary uploads and are untouched.
What can a host see if their pass has lapsed?
Everything they already collected. Reads are never gated — the rounds, the answers and the podium stay open. Only changes are refused, with: “This is included with the Event Pass. Everything you have already added stays exactly where it is — upgrade to keep editing it.”
What do party games cost?
Games are part of the Event Pass, $39 once for the event and no subscription. The same pass covers the photo gallery, the guestbook, the live slideshow and the full-resolution download.
