New York couples are usually choosing between a Manhattan rooftop, a converted Brooklyn loft, a Long Island City warehouse space, or a classic hotel ballroom. Each one changes how guests move — rooftops scatter people across a single level, while loft spaces tend to concentrate everyone in one room.

September through November is peak season here, and it is also when the weather is least predictable. A rooftop ceremony that moves indoors an hour before guests arrive is a normal NYC outcome, not a disaster — but it does mean your photo plan has to work in two different rooms.

The skyline is the shot. Guests photograph the view before they photograph the couple, which means your gallery fills up during cocktail hour rather than after the first dance. Expect a burst at golden hour on any rooftop, then a second wave when the dancing starts and phones come back out.

Manhattan and Brooklyn venues are vertical and compartmentalised — cocktail hour on one floor, dinner on another. Put a code on every floor rather than one at the entrance, because guests physically cannot see a sign they walked past two levels ago.

Will your guests have signal?

Cell service is excellent above ground and unreliable in basement and cellar-level venues, which a lot of Manhattan spaces are. Guests uploading from a below-grade room may be on venue wifi only, so ask what the guest network is before the day.

Either way, uploads are resilient: a photo taken with no connection queues on the guest's phone and completes on its own once they are back in range. Nothing is lost because a corner of the venue had no bars.
