Wedding Photo App Free Tiers: What You Actually Get

Free tiers on wedding photo apps are demos, not plans. They exist so you can see the guest experience before paying, and every one we looked at is capped tightly enough that it cannot carry a real wedding. That is not a criticism — it is what they are for, and using one that way is a good idea.

The mistake is treating a free tier as a budget option and discovering the cap mid-reception.

What do the free tiers actually allow?

Kululu Free allows 50 uploads of photos and videos, unlimited guests, kept for 7 days (kululu.com/pricing, read 23 August 2026).

Picsui Free Preview allows 25 uploads on a 7-day gallery, with watermarked previews and five full-resolution originals. It says of itself that it is not intended for a live event.

Kululu's free tier is the more generous of the two on raw upload count — twice ours. If your only goal is to see how many photos a free tier will hold, that is the honest answer.

Why are free tiers capped so tightly?

Storage and bandwidth cost money per gigabyte, forever, and a wedding generates a lot of both. A service that let one wedding run free would be paying to host it for as long as the gallery exists. The caps are the shape of that economics, not a sales tactic.

It is also why the free windows are short. Seven days is long enough to evaluate and too short to rely on.

Can you run a small wedding on a free tier?

Realistically, no. Fifty uploads is roughly what five enthusiastic guests will contribute in an hour. Twenty-five is a handful. Both of ours and Kululu's free tiers also expire in a week, so even if you stayed under the cap you would need to download everything almost immediately.

If your budget is genuinely zero, a shared album in the phone platform your guests already use will hold more than any free tier here — at the cost of everyone needing the same platform and an account. That trade is the whole reason QR-code services exist.

What should you use a free tier for?

Test the thing that actually varies between services: what a guest sees. Scan the code on your own phone, upload from a browser you have never signed into, and watch how many taps it takes before the photo is in the gallery. Then hand it to someone who is not technical and watch them do it without help.

That fifteen-minute test tells you more than any feature table, including ours.

What happens to the photos when a free tier expires?

They are deleted. On the free tiers we compared, the window is 7 days on both Kululu and Picsui. Deletion means deletion — you should assume there is no recovery, and download anything you want to keep well before the deadline.

This matters more than it sounds. A free tier used for a real event, with the download left for later, is the most common way people lose photos on services like these.

Is there a free tier that keeps photos longer?

Not among the services we priced. Both free tiers we found run 7 days. Longer retention starts at the paid tiers: 3 months on Kululu Plus at $39 (marked down from $79), 12 months on Picsui's $29 Event Pass, 12 months on GuestCam Standard at $49 (guestcam.co/pricing, read 23 August 2026).

If retention is what you care about, that is the variable to shop on, and the free tiers will not tell you anything about it.
