How Long Do Wedding Photo Apps Keep Your Photos?

Hosting windows on QR-code wedding photo services run from 7 days on free tiers to 24 months on the longest paid tier we found. Nobody advertises this prominently, and it is the single most common reason people lose wedding photos on services like these: the gallery quietly expires months after everyone has stopped thinking about it.

How long does each service keep photos?

Read from each vendor's own pricing page on 23 August 2026:

• GuestCam — Standard: 6-month upload window, 12-month storage. Premium: 12-month upload window, 14-month storage (source).

What is the difference between an upload window and storage?

They are two separate clocks and services often quote both. The upload window is how long guests can still add photos. Storage is how long the gallery stays viewable and downloadable. GuestCam's Standard makes the distinction explicit: uploads close at 6 months, storage runs to 12.

When you compare services, make sure you are comparing storage to storage. An advertised “12 months” that turns out to be the upload window is a shorter deal than it looks.

Is the hosted gallery a backup of your wedding photos?

No, and no service on this list should be treated as one, including ours. A hosted gallery is a delivery mechanism with an expiry date attached. Backups do not expire.

The practical rule: within a week of the wedding, download the full-resolution originals as a ZIP and put them somewhere you control — a drive, a NAS, a cloud account you already pay for. Then the expiry date stops mattering.

What happens when the window closes?

The photos are deleted. Some services warn beforehand and some do not. Assume you will not be reminded, and diary the download instead.

We will say plainly that this is a failure mode we have taken seriously ourselves: a gallery that expires quietly is a bad experience no matter whose logo is on it, and warning people before deletion is the minimum a service owes them.

Does paying more always get you longer storage?

Broadly yes, but not linearly, and the longest window is not always the most expensive service. GUESTPIX's Signature Bundle lists 24 months, the longest we found — though the company publishes no price, so we cannot tell you what that costs. Kululu's Pro at $99 lists a year. GuestCam's Premium at $97 lists 14 months. Picsui's $29 Event Pass lists 12.

If retention is your priority, shop specifically on it. It is not well correlated with price.

How long do you actually need?

For most couples, the useful answer is “long enough to download everything and share it once”, which is weeks rather than years. The long windows matter for a specific case: guests who keep uploading late, or family who ask for the link months afterwards.

If you know you will download promptly, buy on upload cap and price instead and let retention be whatever it is. If you know you will not get to it for months, buy the longer window and treat the extra as insurance against your own procrastination.
